Discovering photonic sciences: preparatory class teachers immersed at CentraleSupélec – Metz

The CentraleSupélec campus in Metz hosted, for two days, six physics teachers from the Classes Préparatoires aux Grandes Écoles, BTS and Bac Pro in photonics as part of a LIESSE (Interdisciplinary Links with Higher Education Schools for Structuring Exchanges) practical course. This course was organised by Prof. Damien Rontani, with the collaboration of university lecturers and researchers from the Chair in Photonics and the LMOPS laboratory (Optical Materials, Photonics and Systems Laboratory): Nicolas Marsal, Marc Sciamanna, Nacera Bouldja and Ninel Kokanyan.

A genuine immersion into the heart of photonic science and technology. Participants were introduced to the academic programmes in physical and photonic engineering offered at CentraleSupélec, as well as the research conducted in cutting-edge areas: materials characterisation, nonlinear optics, and optical information processing, with promising applications in artificial intelligence.

They were also able to participate in fun and instructive experimental workshops: making a hologram, slowing down a light pulse to produce “slow light”, or even exploring the properties of materials using Raman spectroscopy.

Beyond the scientific experiments, these two days provided an opportunity for rich and friendly exchanges with LMOPS lecturers, doctoral students, and researchers. The professors also took advantage of their stay to explore the city of Metz and its many attractions.
